Hey there,
Three things that hit concrete work this week. Quick read, then back to the pour.
1) Weather-smart pour plans now live on a phone
Hyundai Engineering & Construction rolled QCON v3 into its Q-Pocket mobile system. One app covers ready-mix dispatch through strength testing. QCON v3 pulls Korea Meteorological Administration forecast data so crews can plan pours around temperature and rain. The company says it helps with cold-weather curing and lets crews track defects and cracks on mobile. AI ICR lets you photograph handwritten notes and auto-log them. Hyundai is opening the patents to other firms through Softzion. Read the Financial News story: https://en.fnnews.com/news/202611051325052484
Try this: Before your next cold or wet pour, write down the forecast for pour hour, not just the day. Ask the plant what mix or set time they recommend for that window.
2) AI that cross-checks calcs against drawings
A Seoul National University of Science and Technology team led by Jaewook Jeong built an AI pipeline that compares a structural calculation package to the structural drawings. On a 19-story reinforced concrete apartment in Seoul, the team reported 253 discrepancies, with 29 classed as critical to structural stability. The paper ran in Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence (online Oct 13, 2026). The team claims 95.56% extraction accuracy on calcs and 90.47% on drawings. This is a research system, not a product you can buy. Read the write-up: https://constructionmetrics.com/2026/11/04/ai-cross-check-structural-calculations-drawings-errors/
Try this: Next time drawings and calcs come in, pick one beam or wall and check the numbers by hand against the sheet. One spot check beats none.
3) Ultrasound says when the next 3D-print layer can go
At UNIST, Prof. Myoungsu Shin’s team used a one-sided ultrasonic check to tell when 3D-printed concrete is ready for the next layer. The method tracks green strength through S0 wave attenuation. Their paper in Cement and Concrete Composites (November issue) reports an R-squared above 0.97 against compression tests. So far they have only tested small three-layer prints. Try this: If you ever watch a 3D-print pour, ask how they decide layer timing today. Write that down. Better data beats a guess.
